Types Of Wine Racks

Wine racks come in several different materials, shapes and styles. Wood is the most popular because of it's durability and ease of assembly. You can get wooden modular units or stackable sections.

MATERIALS

A wood rack can be made from spruce, redwood, fir, oak, cedar and mahogany. Pine is the most common. Redwood and mahogany are great for extremely humid climates, as their wood resists decay and mildew better.

One of the best things about metal ones is that they can come in unique shapes and fashionable designs. Steel ones should be painted with a special paint that resists chipping. You can get powder coatings, which come in different colors and are quite strong.

For maximum sturdiness, a wire rack should be of a heavy gauge with strong weld joints. Stainless steel resists corrosion better than steel wire and doesn't need the coating, but it is also more expensive.

Other materials used include acrylic, polished brass, Lucite, wrought iron and chrome.

SIZES AND STYLES

A great gift idea is the single wine rack, which holds just one bottle.

Other types of storage systems include hanging unit. These are not only attractive, but practical, as they free up space. You can also get free standing units that come with tabletops. These are very convenient for serving. Some of these have drawers where you can place wine accessories. For more functionality and design, you can get ones which have glass shelves on top or even a hanging wine glass rack.

Another option is the wine refrigerator. They are self-contained and temperature controlled. They come in very fine styles which can be coordinated with the rest of your furniture. You may need to get cooling units professionally installed.

The most elaborate wine storage systems are custom made, which can be built in to your wall. For the serious collector, this is perhaps the best option.

WHERE TO BUY THEM

Once you have decided the best type of wine storage system for your needs, you can start shopping at various places like local department stores, houseware stores and sometimes furniture stores. You can also find smaller, decorative racks at wineries and wine shops.

You will probably find the most variety online. Ebay has many wine racks for sale. So does Amazon.

There are also several specialty shops on the Internet. If shopping online, be sure you are dealing with a reputable company. They should display a physical address, a phone number and an email address.
