Wine Gift Idea
Here are some suggestions for selecting just the right wine gift idea, from wine country gift baskets to picnic backpacks to decorative wine racks. There are more than you might imagine. Whether it's for the boss, a client, newlyweds, employees, friends, family members, or your beloved, the following ideas should help get you started.
The most obvious would be to get a bottle of fine wine. But where to start?
When you go wine tasting, and discover a great wine, buy a case. You can be aging it at home and whenever you want to give one as a gift, no need to go shopping and guess at what is good or not.
A gourmet gift basket full of wine country edibles with or without the wine is always a sure hit.
If your wine lover frequents wine country, he or she might appreciate a reusable gourmet picnic basket, complete with vinyl wine glasses, a cheese knife and board, a tablecloth, and other accoutrements. A wine picnic backpack is a great wine gift idea for a couple, as for a wedding gift or anniversary gift.
When you go to wine country, you'll find that many of the wineries have wonderful gift shops full of unique items which make great gifts for wine lovers. Maybe some cabernet fudge sauce, garlic stuffed olives or a beautiful wine print would do nicely.
Another wine gift idea is the
wine rack.
There are many styles, sizes, and shapes to choose from. The benefactor, being a wine lover, probably needs more storage space for his or her collection anyway.

Other gift ideas need not be so tangible. You might consider giving a gift certificate for one of the
California wine tours
in a limousine, van or motorized cable car.
Or how about a ticket (or tickets so you can come along) on the
Napa Valley Wine Train?
Now, this has got to be one of the most romantic gifts imaginable: a trip for two in a
hot air balloon
over wine country, followed by a champagne landing ceremony.
A
Calistoga spa
package or gift certificate for a mud bath and hot mineral water soak in the Napa Valley would be divine wine lover gift.
A smart
corporate gift
might be membership in a wine club. Just about every winery has them. The recipient would get invitations to special events such as wine and food pairings, special reserve wine tastings, candlelit cave dinners and more. (This varies widely from winery to winery.) But primarily, being a member of a wine club means you receive bottles of wine in the mail once a month or so. Our
Book section
offers wine country travel guides and books on wine and wine making, which also make nice wine lover gift ideas.
