Visiting Sonoma Valley Wineries
Select which Sonoma Valley wineries to visit on your wine country excursion using this information on tasting room hours, locations, tours and other special features.
Also known as the Valley of the Moon, Sonoma Valley is located in Sonoma County between Highway 101 to the west and Napa Valley to the east. It is about an hour north east of San Francisco.

A good place to start your tour is in the town of Sonoma itself, which is built up around a town square. Tall trees, a duck pond and a playground are in the square, while historical buildings and shops surround it. You can pick up food at one of the stores (there's a wonderful cheese shop) for a picnic to enjoy later at one of the wineries that you come across.
Around the town itself and just to the east are a few wineries such as Sebastiani, Ravenswood, Gundlach-Bundschu, Buena Vista and Bartholomew Park.
Heading north on Highway 12 will take you through a few small towns in the hot springs area to the heart of the area where most of the Sonoma Valley wineries are located.
Detour left at Arnold Drive toward the Glen Ellen area to visit Benziger family Winery. This is definitely a worthwhile stop with its vineyard tram tour, art exhibit of past labels and demonstration vineyard exhibit.
Returning to the Sonoma Highway (Highway 12), you can continue north for more wineries, including the lovely and gracious Chateau St. Jean.
Depending on where you are staying, you can either return the way you came, or continue on up the 12 as it loops back down to Santa Rosa and Highway 101.
