Visiting Solvang

Located in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County, the charming Danish village of Solvang is the perfect base for a wine country weekend. Not only is it a short drive to the Santa Ynez wineries, but it also has several wineries right in the heart of the village, within walking distance of each other and many hotels.

Windmill in Solvang, California

Originally a Danish settlement, Solvang is distinctive for its architecture and bakeries. A colorful windmill, plentiful pots of flowers and occasionally the aroma of Aebleskiver grace the town. Though bakers differ in their versions of this delicious Danish pastry, they generally are ball shaped pancakes with jam and dusted in powdered sugar.

Solvang is about a 45 minute drive from Santa Barbara, making it a pleasant day trip. If you wish to stay overnight and spend more time exploring this charming European type village and the Santa Ynez Valley for wine tasting, there are plenty of hotels and bed and breakfasts to choose from.
