Around the plaza and along side streets, you will find art galleries, boutiques, cafes, gourmet restaurants and over fifteen wineries. This is perfect for a wine tasting walking tour. In addition, there is a very unique museum called the Hand Fan Museum and the Healdsburg Museum, which has local historical information and various exhibits. About a block away from the plaza is the Visitor's Bureau where you can get more information for your Healdsburg vacation on things like area wineries, restaurants and lodging, as well as a calendar of current events. The Russian River snakes along through town, and if you're there in summer, Veteran's Memorial Beach Park at the south end of town is a good place for a refreshing dip. Less than a half-hour away up at the northern end of the Dry Creek Valley is Lake Sonoma with boating opportunities. At the Visitor's Center is a fish hatchery with indoor exhibits and outdoor walkways to a fish ladder where you can watch salmon jump upstream (in season). A great way to explore wine country around here is by bicycle. There is a company called Wine Country Bikes, which offers both fully guided and self-guided tours on various bikes.
