Copia In Napa Valley
Copia is a center for wine, food and the arts in Napa Valley, California. It is a great wine country destination, with wine tasting, gourmet food, art exhibits, a culinary garden, children's garden, classes, a restaurant and cafe. Update! Copia has unfortunately closed down as of November, 2008 due to financial troubles. Ah well, it was a great concept while it lasted. It's definitely worth a visit. Located right beside the Napa River, this interesting center has a large culinary garden to stroll in. At the far end across the street, is the a children's garden, complete with a digging area, compost bins, habitat walk and herb beds. The highlight for my kids was the rabbit hutch and chicken coop. Inside the main building, there's a small interactive exhibit on wine and wine related topics. Other galleries have rotating exhibits. You can taste wines as well. Their gift shop has lovely wine related items. On weekends, guest chefs hold cooking classes. Other programs go on throughout the week. While I was there, a class was being held on what to do with an artichoke. Julia's Kitchen is a fine dining restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The American Market Cafe has gourmet treats in a more casual setting. While there, I enjoyed a delicious Portobello mushroom sandwich on ciabatta with a Ceaser salad. My daughter preferred the PB & J on the kid's menu. It came with carrot slices, grapes and a cookie. To visit, go to 500 First Street in downtown Napa. Call 707-259-1600. Truly a Napa Valley wine country experience!
