The Monterey PeninsulaIf you are visiting wineries in the Monterey area, including Carmel Valley, you may be considering Monterey for your lodging. In between wine tasting, you could visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery row, Fisherman's Wharf or take a walking tour of the historic district. Or you can take the famed 17-mile drive or hike around beautiful Point Lobos. In Monterey, Cannery Row has few tasting rooms and the more rural Carmel Valley has wineries to visit as well.
Carmel is also a short drive from Carmel Valley where there are some wineries with wine tasting rooms open to the public.
San Luis ObispoIf you are wine tasting in the Edna Valley, which runs southeast of San Luis Obispo, the best place to find accommodation is probably in San Luis Obispo itself. Other alternatives south along Highway 101 would be Pismo Beach, Shell Beach or Arroyo Grande.
Santa MariaSoutheast out of Santa Maria is the Foxen Canyon Trail, which is just beautiful countryside with wineries here and there amongst cattle ranches.
